Thank you Barbara, wasn't the old Magistrates court that biggles111 mentions on Moorgate ?

Yes it was on Moorgate St, the building is now the " new " Town Hall , its on the right of Moorgate St , a light grey bullding , the road there is like a square with car parking in the middle .....I will try & find a photo .

The old Town Hall was turned into a shopping precinct in the Howard St area.

The building was built in 1930 as the Magistrates Court & changed to the Town Hall in 1985
The area in front of the building is called " The Crofts " .

According to google , Phoenix Square was off Masborough Street......Centenary Way cuts right through that area so you need a Godfrey Map of 1911 to have a look to see if you can find it.

Maybe someone else on this forum may be more help. Good Luck !!

Phoenix Square & Dorset Place are named in the 1925 directory,
just to the east of Lyme Street, off Masborough Street.
Dorset Place is named on this 1905 map, so Phoenix Square was near by.

Wow, That was so quick.
Thanks much for your reply and time.
Much appreciated. :)

update: On the corner of Lyme St / Masbrough St there's a large building shown on the old map and when I looked on Street view this could be the Moulders Rest.

In the late 80's I spent a few weeks hospital visiting to Rotherham District General,
also managed to visit a few of Rotherham pubs, the Moulders Rest was my favourite.
Did not drive at that time, so used the bus or train,
I was not aware the Moulders PH was still there, so thanks for the mention.

I spent many happy times there in the late eighties

Also can anyone remember Clifton Park,I used to go every week as a child and remember the fun rides and the little Zoo.

Has anyone got photos of the above please?

My husband went into Rotherham today & saw the sad sight of the pub turned into a " Tesco Express " .......I bet a lot of people agree with us by saying they will miss it & I bet old Bartlett Holbein  (  the first landlord ) will turn in his grave !!!
