Location Meadowhall Rd/ Midland main line

Opened 01/04/1868

Closed 02/04/1956

Also known as Wincobank & Meadowhall

The site was lost when the modern day interchange was built

Well before my time but a tainspotting aquaintence told me that this was Wincobank Station on the GC line - was there one on the Midland as well? Was it Wincobank and Meadowhall?

According to my book there were 2 stations

Meadowhall GC, also known as Meadowhall & Wincobank

Wincobank Mid, also known as Wincobank & Meadowhall

Confused or what

It is called Blackburn Road? The old line is now a tarmac track which you can walk/cycle along to Meadowhall. It is the same one that passes Grange Lane (there is a sign on that picture). Grange lane is on the GC isn't it? ;-)

Also note the lack of trees, the buildings behind the tram must be Beauchief Golf clubhouse

Millhouses & Ecclesall (Mid)

Location

Closed 10/06/1968

Opened in 1870, and expanded to 4 platforms in 1901-3. There are various variations on the name.

A couple of the station masters:

1879 — Ecclesall & Millhouses: Station master = Henry Darby

1881 — Ecclesall & Millhouses: Station master = Henry Darby

1881 — Census: Henry Darby (age 32), Station Master Rly, Ecclesall Station

1891 — Census: Henry Darby (age 42), Station (Rly) Master, Millhouses (Station house)

1893 — Millhouses & Ecclesall Station: Station master = Henry Darby

1894 — Mill Houses & Ecclesall

1901 — Millhouses & Eccleshall: Station master = F. J. Mayall

1901 — Census: Frank J Mayall (age 39), Railway Station Master, Station House, Millhouses

1908 — Millhouses & Ecclesall

1911 — Millhouses & Ecclesall: Station master = Frank J. Mayall

This station was known as Oughty Bridge throughout it's existence.

Location Rotherham Rd

Opened 15/02/1849

Resited 01/11/1893

Closed 01/11/1954

Original Station was located at Beighton Junction to the south of the village.
