Hi Richard, my first posting. Do you have a Hannah Bradshaw on your list of female victuallers? I gather she might have run The Grapes on Trippet lane around 1833 though the Trade Directory says Coalpit lane? I'd like to know when this lady took over, who from and how long she ran it and if it was the Grapes or another pub? Also, do you have any details on Hannah Maria Harvey who had The Old Blue Ball on Broad lane around 1900?

Cheers

Jon

Hi JonB,

welcome to the site. Don't know about Hannah Bradshaw, but Coalpit Lane was the original name of Cambridge Street. No doubt Richard will answer your queery on his return from the US. If you want to do some research of your own, try the Historical Directories site. Link below.

Hi thanks for the reply, seems it wasnt the Grapes she had then? Always wondered what the exact definition of a Beerhouse is as its also listed against other family members, Henry Bradshaw Cricket Inn Road for one.

I believe a beerhouse had a licence to sell beer only, no spirits, place on Rutland Road was Sheffields last beerhouse, forget the name - Tsavo, one for you <wink> on the right going up the hill, on PictureSheffield for sure.......
