Kelly's Directory Of Sheffield And Rotherham - 1970

Maybe this is not such a rare volume, but I turned a copy up, while looking through some old stuff at my Mum's house. Aside from some of the projecting pages being a little dog-eared and a small nick out of the jacket on the spine, it's in good nick.

Leafing through the pages, it's astounding to see just how many of these companies made up the industrial landscape of Sheffield. Yet, just 45 years after this book, our manufacturing infrastructure had gone from powerhouse to poorhouse?! Sure, there are still some that survive and still carry on the proud tradition of our heritage, but looking at the sections of the Iron, Steel, Tools and Machinery trades, it's hard to find firms that still survive (discounting those that have relocated their manufacturing base, just east of Sheffield...... 6000 miles to be precise!)

Anyway, before this turns into a lament.....

If anyone has a need for some information out of the book, I'd be happy to look it up and send the relevant bits. I'm not really inclined to scan the whole lot and upload it (even if that were allowed), but if anyone has a need, feel free to ask...
