LeadFarmer
Lovely video, starting on London Rd, up The Moor, Pinstone St, Fargate, High Street, Haymarket... http://player.bfi.org.uk/film/watch-tram-ride-through-the-city-of-sheffield-1902-1902/ And discussed further here.. http://www.sheffieldforum.co.uk/showthread.php?t=1238127&highlight=tram+ride
Calvin72
It's on here somewhere already, but it is fantastic! My favourite piece of Sheffield film footage. It is possible to identify shops etc, especially on the Moor - anyone see anything of particular interest or raise any questions? I believe it is a 'Mitchell and Kenyon' production, which meant that it would have been screened soon after for paying customers to watch. Anyone know where or when? saw119
The 'Mitchell and Kenyon' films were shown at the Albert Hall in Barker's Pool if I remember correctly. The sad thing is evidence shows that they filmed many more than we currently have. Have you seen the street accident in Sheffield film? That's also interesting. Calvin72
http://player.bfi.org.uk/film/watch-sheffield-street-accident-1902-1902/ saw119's recommended film - different but interesting - a rare Mitchell and Kenyon film that wasn't staged in some way I think. saw119
That's the interesting thing about that second film it is actually news! Can we locate the incident in question in the local papers? Incidentally, he tall chap with the panama hat and handle bar moustache who walks towards the camera in both films is, in fact, one of the filmmakers. In that film, is the camera man stood outside The Bankers Draft looking down Angel St towards Castle St & Snig Hill?
