Creevella Works Under Threat Yet Again

The developers are appealing against the Sheffield City Councils decision to allow demolition og existing building and erection of 4 dwellinghouses. I am not hopeful that the Creevella works won't eventually be demolished as there has been a refusal to see the works as an important historic building and all arguments solely rest on whether there is provision for car parking

I was at the meeting when the application was rejected. The planning officers were very pro the application and were trying to steer the decision. The councilors on the committee on the other hand to their credit were very much against it, and did indeed want to also put down the historical aspect as a reason for rejecting. They were forced however by some legal bod from the planning department to only put one reason down for rejecting so the parking was chosen as the one most likely to not be overturned at appeal.

Next Saturday (the 20th) at 10.30am there is to be a photograph taken outside for the Star so if anyone would like to come down and show their support please do. Further comments can be sent to the planning inspectorate, I think you have to send three copies by post or something. I will check when I get home and post the info on here later this weekend. The deadline is January 7th. You've got to wonder at the timing over Christmas. Deliberate I'm sure.

I think reason that Planners were pro development is that there is pressure to build more residences both flats and houses from the Government. Best argument is to have as many people appear when Star comes on 20th Dec 10.20 a.m. Big numbers can be influential. Hard to claim it is of significance to the community if no one turns up which is what developers are hoping for. So if you can possibly spare half an hour to support Walkley please come.

Well the deadline for further comments to the appeal board was today, should know the outcome in a few weeks. We've had a very supportive letter sent by our MP too. Nearly chocked when I read on the planning agents own website his description of the plans:

"Redevelopment of site containing 18th Century historic farmstead buildings demanding a sensitive approach to conservation, and imaginative design to cover concerns regarding traffic and residential amenity"
