Grateful for assistance in learning more about Sheffield wholesale fruiterers Enos (father) and Cecil (son) Kaye.

Enos started the business in the 1890s and it developed by Enos and Cecil; it eventually was based at Castlefield Market and only ceased operating in 2014.

Cecil was one of the first Tank Crewmen http://www.firsttankcrews.com/. He was wounded on 7 October 1916 whilst serving with C Company of the Heavy Section Machine Gun Corps; one of the first two units to take tanks into battle. He later served with the Royal Engineers probably in a Tank Brigade Signal Company.

After the war, Cecil married a teacher named Irene Foster. In 1950, Cecil was president of the Sheffield and District Wholesale Fruit and Potato Merchants' Association; he used the occasion of the 60th Anniversary Dinner, held at the Royal Victoria Hotel, to call for the rebuilding of Sheffield and, in particular more new shops in Sheffield to prevent local people to travel to Leeds, Manchester and Birmingham.

Enos died in 1964,Cecil died in 1977.

A couple of cuttings that may be of interest:

In April 1915 an advert was placed in the Yorkshire Telegraph and Star: "FRUIT SHOP, good, in best district: immediate possession - Apply Enos KAye, Castlefolds Market, Sheffield"

And in case you've not seen it, a copy of his 1911 census return:

Was there any relation to R. and A. Kaye ? - In January 1899 the partnership between Reuben and Abel Kaye, fruit merchants at Castlefolds was dissolved. In December 1899 " Reuben and Albert Kaye, trading as R. and A. Kaye of Castlefolds Market, Sheffield, fruit merchants and commission agents" - partnership dissolved.
