Calvin72
I used to live around the corner from here and often noticed this house and workshop. As i was born in Lyndhurst, Hampshire, it caught my eye!
tozzin
Herbert William Roberts, "Monumentalist" in 1911, ten years previously at the same address he'd been a humble "stone carter" H W Roberts 1911.jpg Something strange about this census return, it states that Mary Ada was 40 years old at the time of the census but when she died and was buried in City Rd Cemetery in 1914 she was 46, that is strange. I can't find anything about Herbert's death and burial, usually they would be buried together in City Rd, not unless he remarried and was buried elsewhere with his new wife. Calvin72
There is still a maker of headstones directly opposite the entrance to City Road cemetery today Andy (as well as a flower stall outside too), so there is still money in death.
