I have recently found out that my Great Grandfather George Willoughby was a witness to a accidental death of a workmate at Tyzack Sons & Turner , Little London Works , Sheffield in April 1891 where he worked as a Scythe Grinder. The man was crushed by a falling grindstone.

It was reported in the Sheffield & Rotherham Independant at the time, does anybody know how i can see a record of this report ? The date of the report was 22nd April 1891.

Thank you very much for all this info, it's amazing the know how that Sheffied History members have between them .It just fills out the picture of my Grt Grandad who died at 39 with "Grinders Chest ". I also now know where he worked , as I have been looking for ages !

So thanks again Stuart 0742, Duckweed & Steve HB , I knew you would help as others from Sheffield History have helped me before in this family search ...... I can't recommend you enough !!

I have an ancestor called John Moore born Sheffield 1856 who was a file grinder & I am told was killed on 12 Nov 1892 when a grindstone he was using split & exploded outwards. Can anyone find a newspaper report in that incident for me please?

Thanks, John

John,

I was only able to find a death notice, hopefully someone else may have more luck (skill) with a full report?

He was buried in grave number E-368-Unconsecrated at Darnall Cemetery on 16th November 1892 if that's of any help. He died in the Infirmary.

Hi John,

The records aren’t fully transcribed yet but I’ve found these two if that helps. No sign of Elizabeth as yet.

MOORE, John aged 73 of 153 Broad Oaks, buried in E-367-Uncons on 09-01-1910

MOORE, June aged 62, wife of John aged 62 of 39 Ripon Street, buried in E-367-Uncons on 07-06-1894
