A very good friend of mine is a member of Eric Taylors family they have two original FA Cup final shirts one from the 1935 final and the other from 1966. I found it very interesting as the 1935 tag shows that they were provided by Suggs.

They are fantastic.

I remember back in the early 1970s replica kits weren't widely available. If you went to Suggs you could get different coloured/striped shirts but not the branded kit with club badges as such. When they did start coming out they were for top Div 1 teams like Leeds and England not for teams struggling in Div 3 . I remember getting a blue and white striped one and buying a cloth badge from the club shop (which disintegrated) which my mum sewed on.

I also remember thinking how old fashioned that old owl looked and preferring the new design but now I prefer the older one!

This Wednesday shirt is from a time well before shirt numbers were introduced

numbered shirts didn't appear until the late 1920's

Even for Wednesday shirts they are impressive.

Looking around the "legends of the Lane" I would stand and stare for ages at Nudger Needhams old England shirt. The thing that gets me thinking are the grass/mud stains. makes you think of the tackle that caused the fall etc.

Incidentally I think Suggs used to make the United shirts as well and badges werent added until much later i believe apart from the City crest for big cup games etc...

2 Interesting points : The first time numbers were used in Association football in Europe was August 25, 1928, when Wednesday played Arsenal. Numbers were assigned by field location.

Also the first time squad numbers (rather than 1 to 11) were used was when Wednesday played Arsenal in the 1993 League Cup Final!
