ukelele lady
What were the other occupations during the second world war where you were needed to stay at home in your job to help the war ? We know of the miners but were the dam workers also kept at home to service the dams?
Edmund
Well you did ask..... The full document is available from the National Archives (LAB25/97) - not available online, but there was an article in the Times in 1939 giving the provisional list. Prizes for the daftest. I like "Gong Maker (clock)"
saw119
Anecdotally my Grandfather was a drop stamper and was refused his application to join the Navy. He then tried to resign his job as a drop stamper to enlist but he was drawn to be a Bevin Boy instead, a job he stayed in until Nunnery Colliery was closed in the Mid '50's. ukelele lady
With the long list printed above of the reserved occupations it makes you wonder where they found all the fighting men who went to war.
