Edmund
I'm hoping for some help finding where Barrack Square, Brightside was? The background: Samuel Bamforth (b 1828 Loxley) was the landlord at the Bridge Inn (Brightside Bridge, Weedon Street) from 1879 to 1883. He died in 1884 aged 56, being buried at St Thomas, Brightside on 6th October 1884 - but his address was given on the burial record as Barrack Square, Brightside. I'm not aware of any military background, and so far as I know the new Barracks at Hillsboro were in Nether Hallam, not Brightside Before taking on the Bridge Inn the family had lived at Alma Street, not far from Barrack Lane (off Infirmary Road) - which was Brightside. In 1883 one of his sons was living on Station Road, Brightside. In 1891 his widow and offspring were living at Upwell Street, with older sons on Weedon Street and Dearne Street. Edmund
Sort of an answer - his death certificate gives his place of death as 21 Weir Walk. I take this as being by the Brightside Weir, off Carbrook Street, though the reason the burial record referred to it as Barrack Square is still elusive.
