vox
I noticed these quite a while ago and kept meaning to take a photo. A very good Idea I think. These are on Raisen Hall Road, outside Longley School and there are some more on Hatfield House Lane. Are these the only ones ?
Bayleaf
There was a lively discussion about them on Sheffield Forum when they first appeared. People seemed fairly evenly divided about whether they were a good idea or not. The anti's thought that when people got used to them they'd not have an impact, and might cause a driver used to seeing them to 'not see' a real child. SteveHB
It was Some years ago .. But I remember the council enforcing the removal of this wooden cut out, after it was deemed as a distraction to passing motorists. It once stood on the kerb stones, by the side of London Road. I've passed them many times and, for my own part, they still seem to do what they're designed for. It may indeed work differently for other people I suppose. As for distractions Steve, the council don't seem to be too worried by the abundance of lighted up advertising signs that keep springing up all over the place do they. But then again they will be getting a lot of income from them. In my opinion there are too many signs of all types on our streets nowadays. They need thinning out I think. dunsbyowl1867
I noticed the one on Hatfield House Lane on my last visit - found it a bit unnerving in a Midwitch Cookoo sort of way! ;-)
vox
I wonder if any parents have picked one up by mistake, and left their kid waiting in the playground.
hilldweller
I wonder if any parents have picked one up by mistake, and left their kid waiting in the playground. If they have done then they've probably had a more interesting dialog with it then they would have done with their own child. At least the fibre-glass one's don't need the latest in smartphones every two minutes. HD
