Struggling To Find Roads

Recommended Posts

Hi All,

I have two relatives that died in 1916 but on modern maps and on Google Earth i cannot find the roads or on the maps on this site (unless i have missed them).

I dont know where they were in Sheffield either which is not a great help.

1. 33 Marcus Street

2. 3c 7h Newham Road

I was wondering if anyone can help please?

According to my map of 1923, Marcus St. ran off Rock St. in the Burngreave area. There is no listing of Newham Rd. but there was a Newman Rd. in the Wincobank district.

3c 7h indicates that the road at that time was based on a series of courtyards each with a collection of houses using the communal yard.

I read that as "3rd court 7th house Newham Road"

It must be Newman road and a transcription error if there is not a Newham road. Dave, how far away is this house from BurngreaveWilson Cemetary please ?

Newman Road ?

1905

Flash Earth

Well, it's only a single letter out on the spelling so could just be a transcription error, and it does have a number 3 court with at least 7 houses in it.

I know where Burngreave Cemetary is,

Newman Road is at the top of the view, near to the M1.

Nicola Wilson wrote a book 'Burngreave Voices'

the cut was taken from a 1905 map, and is not available on here.
