tozzin
I worked at Whitbreads Exchange Brewery for around a year in the early seventies and as I walked down Millsands to start work, on the left hand side of Millsands on one of the buildings at around four feet or so from street level was a bronze marker around a yard long by around four inches wide and on it was cast the words "level of the Sheffield flood 1864" and I have always wondered just what happened to this marker when the dispatch buildings were demolished (this is where the marker was) was it taken as a memento, was it sold as scrap or was it saved and put in the Museums hands? Just where did it go?
vox
There was one just round the corner on Bridge Street as well. I wondered the same thing, as to what happened to it when they demolished the building. I think it was on number 82 or 84, Almost opposite what was at the time, Hawleys Tyres, Link to OS Map
