James Mudd, Manchester portrait painter, a beautiful set of pictures caught the fantastic scene after a disastrous dam-burst near Sheffield in 1864.

Mudd ... apt somehow.

Text and one photograph.

Any more to be found.

May need linking to Flood (if we manage to find more pictures)

Thomas Tate, Penistone Road

1870's

A studio portrait of a gentleman.

If these really are 1870's they are great because Trade Directories from the 1870's aren't great, or even available - unless you know differently.

J S Tulley, 24-30 Division Street

1870's

A studio portrait of a young gentleman.

James Syrus Tulley known 1893-1925 at Division Street, 1870's may be optimistic - 1881 census may help

Mr and Mrs T S Hicks, 141 Cemetery Road

1870's

A studio portrait of a young girl.

That'll be Thomas Spurzheim Hicks then - 373 Glossop Road 1893.

James Arthur Willan, Photographer was at 141 Cemetery Road in 1893 - suspect (again) 1870's is a touch early.

N. Holden, Willow Cottage, Arthur Street

1870's ?

A studio portrait of a finely dressed young woman.

If only we had a name of the person, eh ? Could help prove/disprove the 1870's dating.

I'm aware of a George Holden, photographer of 44 Gertrude Street & 129 London Road (1893) - can't place Gertrude Street, unless it was/is near Thirza Street ... ?

J. Caloe, Corporation Street

1870's

A studio portrait of a mother & daughter.

As some of the early Victorian forms of photography produced pictures called "Calotypes" by a process called "Calography", could J. Caloe of Corporation Street be one of those names where the name fits the profession?
