Received this email today, has any body heard of this guy, ex publican

Hello

I am trying to find out more about a relative Rodney Garry Garside who

was born in 1927 in Sheffield. I believe he may have died in April

1985 (aged 57) in Sheffield and occupation given to me is Publican.

Are there any registers which show which pub he may have been at?

Not sure if he married although there are several entries for

marriages of Rodney Garry Garside in 1952/1958 and even 1982. No

details of any children.

Can you help or suggest where to go next as would love to contact any

family he had.

Many thanks in anticipation.

I've not heard of him.

My interest fades from 1925 and halts at 1951.

On the off-chance he's the son of a publican my data gives only two entries - which may, or may not be worth looking into further.

Wilfred Garside, Ran Moor, 330 Fulwood Road in 1948-1951.

Did he have a brother? as I lived next door to a Walter Garside in the late 60s. W/E.

If it's the same Rodney Garside he kept the Lion & Lamb in Eckington in the '60's & early '70's & took over the Enfield Arms on Broughton Lane when me & my husband left in approx 1974, what happened to him after that I can't remember.

He was quite a character !!

Oh I meant to say that the owners of the pub were Whitbreads, we were the tenants, so if you got in touch with them they may be able to help.

We kept the pub from Dec13th 1971 untill mid '74 before moving to the Cannon Hall at Firvale, Sheffield, so it was taken by myself with my back to the B & C Dairy on Broughton Lane sometime in this period .....sorry can't be more precise then that !! Had a few beers since then !!

I have a pic of the Old Heaveygate on Matlock Road , Walkey which my parents kept in the '60s when it was first altered if it is any use to you , just let me know & I will scan it & send it to you.

Cheers,

Barbara.

Any more former publicans with pictures to share ? Ukelele Lady and me are stuck with 1818-1920's a present, she promised me it was only sixth months work - several years ago. Or am I just kidding myself ?

Wilf and Ella Garside kept the Ranmoor Inn until at least 1971, they had a daughter but I cannot remember a son.

A Rod Garside took over the Robin Hood on Attercliffe Road (opposite the Carlton) from Ian Mowatt in about 1979/1980. Quite a character and never known to put his hand in his pocket :) He definitely had a son, if I remember more, I'll post again.
